Chelsea favourite for English Premier League title

Big-spending Manchester City is also in the running for the 2010/11 campaign alongside Arsenal and Manchester United.

Thursday 22nd July 2010

With the start of the 2010/11 English Premier League season a little over three weeks away, defending champion Chelsea sits atop the bookmakers’ picks for who will win the title followed by the usual suspects of Manchester United and Arsenal. Chelsea narrowly beat Manchester United to the title last season after finishing with one more point and Bwin.com lists the Londoners at odds of 7/5 to repeat while StanJames.com, SkyBet.com, 888Sport.com, bet365.com, SportingBet.com, BlueSq.com, BetFred.com and VictorChandler.com show 6/4. Slightly longer, BoyleSports.com has odds of 8/5 on Carlo Ancelotti’s men to win the English Premier League next season followed by Coral.co.uk, ExtraBet.com, WilliamHill.com, Ladbrokes.com, PaddyPower.com and ToteSport.com with 13/8. Chelsea begins its domestic campaign at home against newly promoted West Bromwich Albion on August 14 and WBX.com and Betfair.com show odds of 163/100 that the side will win its fifth domestic title come 2011 followed by BetDaq.com showing 41/25 and Bodog.com listing 33/20. Manchester United has won the English title on 18 previous occasions and is shown at odds of 2/1 by Ladbrokes.com and Coral.co.uk to make it 19 in 2011. This is followed by SkyBet.com and PaddyPower.com with 9/4 while punters can get 12/5 from SportingBet.com. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team suffered through a string of injuries last season but 888Sport.com, bet365.com, BetFred.com, ToteSport.com, ExtraBet.com, BoyleSports.com, Bodog.com, WilliamHill.com, StanJames.com and BlueSq.com are going with odds of 5/2 that the 2010/11 edition of the English Premier League will end happier for the Lancastrians than its predecessor. Manchester United begins the 2010/11 season on August 16 at Old Trafford against newly promoted Newcastle United and Bwin.com is offering odds of 28/11 that the team will win the English Premier League while bettors can get 131/50 from WBX.com and 133/50 at Betfair.com and BetDaq.com. Following a number of summer signings including Yaya Toure from Barcelona and David Silva from Valencia, Manchester City has moved up the bookmakers’ lists and is now being offered at odds as low as 4/1 with ToteSport.com and Bwin.com to win the 2010/11 English Premier League. Big-spending Manchester City finished in fifth spot last season to qualify for the Europa League competition but boss Roberto Mancini has been told that he must do better this time around with Bodog.com, WilliamHill.com, BoyleSports.com, Coral.co.uk.uk, SportingBet.com, ExtraBet.com and StanJames.com showing the side at odds of 9/2 to win its third title and first since 1968. Manchester City kicks off the latest instalment of the English Premier League away to Tottenham on the afternoon of August 14 with punters able to get odds of 24/5 from WBX.com and 49/10 at BetDaq.com on ‘The Citizens’ winning it all this season. This is followed by BetFred.com, VictorChandler.com, Ladbrokes.com, PaddyPower.com, SkyBet.com, bet365.com, Bluesq.com and 888Sport.com at 5/1 while Betfair.com shows the slightly longer 51/10. Arsenal finished in third spot last season well behind Manchester United and Chelsea but Coral.co.uk, Ladbrokes.com and WilliamHill.com show odds of 6/1 that Arsene Wenger’s young team will mature to win the 2010/11 English Premier League. The London side has won the title on 13 occasions but the last came in 2004 with SportingBet.com, 888Sport.com, BoyleSports.com, BetFred.com, VictorChandler.com, Bodog.com, ExtraBet.com, Bet365.com, Bwin.com and BlueSq.com offering odds of 13/2 on Arsenal triumphing come 2011. Slightly longer, BetDaq.com is offering 67/10 while bettors can get 34/5 from Betfair.com and WBX.com and 7/1 at ToteSport.com, PaddyPower.com, SkyBet.com and StanJames.com.
