Poker stars to raise money for charity

Celebrities from the worlds of sports and poker are set to turn out in London for a special charity tournament hosted by VictoryPoker.com in September.

Thursday 29th July 2010

Leading poker publication Bluff Europe has announced that it will be holding a special celebrity tournament in late-September in partnership with VictoryPoker.com in an effort to raise money for The Murry Foundation charity. Bluff Europe revealed that The Murry Foundation’s projects include the reclamation of land for endangered animals alongside an orphanage for AIDS victims in South Africa while the charity’s most recent endeavour entitled Operation Congerilla is an attempt to save some of the world’s last remaining silverback gorillas. “As Head Trustee, I have travelled extensively with the foundation, which concerns itself with animal and child welfare and the regeneration of ecosystems,” said Luke Trotman, Head Trustee for The Murry Foundation. “While many of the projects are not domestic, I believe that once you have witnessed the vulnerability and innocence trapped within such violence and instability it is impossible to ignore the reality that our help is needed outside our countries and familiar communities.” The Bournemouth-based charity is also developing a school in the Congo for children, many of which are former underage soldiers in a nation ravaged by civil war, and derives only two percent of its donations from fundraising events and activities. Supporters of the charity include boxers Evander ‘Real Deal’ Holyfield and ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard alongside snooker player Jimmy White and former England footballer Jamie Redknapp with more information on the non-profit aid organisation and its projects available by visiting The MurryFoundation.com The special celebrity event will be hosted by VictoryPoker.com at The Fox Poker Club in London on September 22 with Dan Fleyshman, Chief Executive Officer for the Malta-licensed site, promising that ‘athletes, models and poker celebrities’ including Esfandiari and Phil Laak will be in attendance.
