Odds lengthen on Formula One title for Vettel

Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber are leading the pack in the race for this season’s Driver’s Championship.

Monday 30th August 2010

Following his disastrous performance at yesterday’s Belgian Grand Prix, the odds on Formula One racer Sebastian Vettel winning this season’s Driver’s Championship title have lengthened considerably. The 23-year-old German started Sunday’s race in fourth position but finished in 15th spot after crashing into Jenson Button and being forced to serve a drive-through penalty. Offered at odds as short as 6/4 last week by SkyBet.com, Vettel is now shown at 7/2 by 888Sport.com, WilliamHill.com, ExtraBet.com, VictorChandler.com, BlueSq.com and PaddyPower.com while BetDaq.com, Bwin.com and WBX.com show an even longer 15/4. With six races remaining, punters can get odds of 4/1 from Ladbrokes.com, SportingBet.com, BetFred.com, Coral.co.uk, SkyBet.com and StanJames.com on the Red Bull Racing driver winning his first Driver’s Championship while Betfair.com shows 41/10 followed by Bet365.com with 9/2. The bookmaker’s pick at the moment is Australian driver Mark Webber, who finished in second place yesterday after recovering from a terrible start that saw him drop from pole position down to sixth. The 34-year-old is currently in second spot in the Driver’s Championship with ExtraBet.com, SkyBet.com and BetFred.com listing odds of 6/4 on a first Formula One title for the New South Welshman. Slightly longer, StanJames.com, Coral.co.uk and Bet365.com are currently listing 13/8 while bettors can get 7/4 at VictorChandler.com, SportingBet.com, WilliamHill.com, Bwin.com, PaddyPower.com, Ladbrokes.com, 888Sport.com and BlueSq.com. At the far end of the spectrum is Betfair.com with odds of 13/7 on the Red Bull Racing driver winning this season’s individual title followed by BetDaq.com with 37/19 and WBX.com offering 9/4. Also among the favourites is 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton with SkyBet.com listing odds of 6/5 on a second title for the 25-year-old. The McLaren Mercedes driver won yesterday’s race after starting from second spot and now leads Webber by three points in the race for the title. Ladbrokes.com lists the Brit at odds of 5/4 to win this season’s Driver’s Championship while StanJames.com is going with the slightly longer 13/10. Jackie Stewart was the last British driver to win multiple Driver’s Championship titles with his last success coming in 1973 and Hamilton is shown at odds of 6/4 by WBX.com, VictorChandler.com, BetFred.com, PaddyPower.com and Bet365.com to emulate the famous Scot’s achievement this season. This is followed by WilliamHill.com, 888Sport.com, BlueSq.com and Coral.co.uk showing 13/8 while punters can get 7/4 at Bwin.com, SportingBet.com and ExtraBet.com. Rounding off the odds on Hamilton tasting success this year is BetDaq.com offering 27/14 while Betfair.com shows 79/40.
