American computerised gaming equipment designer and manufacturer International Game Technology (IGT) has announced that its IGT Canada subsidiary has been awarded with a contract to replace at least half of the 12,000 video lottery terminals currently operating in Quebec.
The Reno-based firm revealed that the agreement with government-run Loto-Quebec represented one of the largest gambling equipment deals available this year and would see it begin replacing terminals in 2012 alongside Canadian firm Spielo Manufacturing.
“The two bidders distinguished themselves from their competitors thanks to their excellent price-quality ratio, their experience and reputation in the video lottery terminal industry, the security, integrity and reliability of their video lottery terminals, their platform relating to responsible gaming as well as the diversity of their games and technological advances,” read a statement from Loto-Quebec.
The provincial operator received government approval in December to replace its network of video lottery terminals after citing the advanced age of the machines currently in use and revealed that the overhaul would cost approximately $257 million.
