Betfair helps regulate Horse Racing Industry
Betfair signs agreement with Racing Protective Bureau to provide information on horseracing
Wednesday 9th March 2005
Betfair has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with the US Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. The agreement allows the Bureau to request from Betfair any information on betting activity on North American horseracing where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the integrity of the sport may be compromised.
Mark Davies, Betfair's Director of Communications commented, 'We're once again delighted to be broadening the relationships we have with sports regulatory bodies all over the world. We're the first bookmaking operation anywhere to have interests exactly in line with the regulators, because of the precise risk management that our technology allows us to achieve. We look forward to working with TRPB, as we have with their colleagues in sports regulation in countries as far apart as England and Australia.'
'We reaffirm our willingness to enter into a similar arrangement with the Australian Racing Board. To date that offer has not been accepted,' he added
Paul Berube, TRPB's President added, 'TRPB is pleased that Betfair has made this new investigative resource available to us. Experience has taught that all betting activity is important no matter where and how it takes place.'
