David Williams and Josh Arieh Hit the Tables for Bodog

Bodog contestants lose out at the NBC National Heads-up Poker Championship

Tuesday 15th March 2005

Josh Arieh and David Williams, Bodog’s sponsored poker players lucked out at last weekend’s NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Josh Arieh started well, beating Celine Dion’s husband, Rene Angelil in the first round. But he met the three times gold bracelet winner Ted Forrest in the second round, and failed to secure himself a place in the final 16. David Williams was just as unsuccessful as he was ousted by two time WSOP winner Charles Mortensen in the opening round

“We were thrilled to have both players representing us at this event, and we look forward to working with them for future events,” said Calvin Ayre CEO of Bodog. “Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson and Phil Hellmuth had a fantastic, marathon-like race to the finish, and it was great to see Phil take another tournament.”

The Championships were built in a bracket format, which allows for a small margin of error, and saw some of the games elite players fall within the first round.

“With this structure, much like the NCAA basketball tournament, you tend to see some major upsets in the opening rounds, which ultimately leads to a dramatic finish,”said Calvin Ayre “Josh and David were both great representatives for us, and they are true ambassadors for the growing interest of poker around the world.”
