Online gaming and wagering provider Centrebet has signed a deal with Geelong Racing Club that will see it remain as the title sponsor for October’s Geelong Cup thoroughbred horse race for the next five years.
Although the precise value of the deal has not been disclosed, the President for the Geelong Racing Club, Paul Bongiorno, described the arrangement as the largest corporate partnership it had ever signed and as breaking new ground in regional Victoria.
“We believe this is the largest sponsorship secured by a country club,” said Bongiorno.
“The club is thrilled that Centrebet will be its major partner for the next five years as we continue to build the Geelong Cup into a truly international race.”
The Geelong Cup offered $225,000 in prize money last year with any increase due to hinge on whether the track’s application to have the event elevated from Group Three to Group Two is approved next month.
“With the Geelong Cup and housing the only all-weather synthetic racetrack in Victoria, we are extremely happy to stand alongside Geelong Racing Club as its major partner and we have a unique vision planned,” said Neil Evans, Public and Media Relations Manager for Sydney-based Centrebet.
