Tuesday 28th June 2011

Los Angeles-based sporting events organiser Federated Sports and Gaming Incorporated has announced that it has christened its forthcoming new professional poker league as the Epic Poker League. Federated Sports and Gaming earlier revealed that respected professional poker player Annie Duke is set to serve as Commissioner for its new endeavour, which will kick off with its first event on August 5 from The Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. “This is no ordinary tournament league,” said Jeffrey Grosman, Chief Operating Officer for Federated Sports and Gaming. “Our fields will be some of the toughest in poker history and we expect the competition to be nothing less than epic. In selecting a name that could live up to the players' incredible skill and talent, ‘Epic’ was a natural fit.” Federated Sports and Gaming declared that each of the four inaugural tournament series is set to include a pro-am event alongside a charity tournament and a $20,000 buy-in rake-free main event with $400,000 added. The season will then finish with the one million dollar Epic Poker Championship freeroll event for the 27 players with the highest regular season earnings. The Palms Casino and Resort is offering a $340 buy-in super satellite awarding one guaranteed Epic Poker League pro-am seat every Saturday evening from seven o’clock through July 31. It is also awarding one such seat every Sunday evening from the same time via a $180 buy-in super satellite while competitors can win a spot into these events via single table satellites every day for $65 and $40. “For a $40 investment, anyone can have a shot at the glory on a national stage, a million dollars and poker’s most exclusive title,” said Duke. “That opportunity is unmatched in poker.” Federated Sports and Gaming stated that a new website focusing on the series will launch in advance of the first event at featuring player profiles, rankings, statistics, news, results, strategy and access to ‘a new social media poker experience’. To date, 218 of the world’s best live tournament players have qualified for the Epic Poker League, which has ambitions of featuring nationally televised events and interactive digital programming in addition to social media games.
