New tour christened the Epic Poker League

Venture from sporting events organiser Federated Sports And Gaming will see at least 218 of the world’s best players battling it out in five events beginning from August 5.

Wednesday 29th June 2011

Los Angeles-based sporting events organiser Federated Sports and Gaming has announced that it its forthcoming professional poker league has been christened as the Epic Poker League. Federated Sports and Gaming initially revealed details of the new venture in late-January and stated then that each of the four inaugural tournament series is set to include a pro-am event alongside a charity tournament and a $20,000 buy-in rake-free main event with $400,000 added. The new Epic Poker League has already signed up 218 of the world’s best live tournament players to date with its inaugural season set to finish with the one million dollar Epic Poker Championship freeroll event featuring the 27 highest regular season earners. “This is no ordinary tournament league,” said Jeffrey Grosman, Chief Operating Officer for Federated Sports and Gaming. “Our fields will be some of the toughest in poker history and we expect the competition to be nothing less than epic. In selecting a name that could live up to the players' incredible skill and talent, ‘Epic’ was a natural fit.” Federated Sports and Gaming declared in January that respected professional poker player Annie Duke would serve as Commissioner for its new endeavour with the first Epic Poker Tour event set to kick off on August 5 from The Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. This iconic venue is already running a $340 buy-in super satellite every Saturday evening through July 31 awarding one guaranteed pro-am seat. It is also handing out one such spot each Sunday night via a $180 buy-in super satellite while competitors can win a place into these events via single table satellites every day for $65 and $40. “For a $40 investment, anyone can have a shot at the glory on a national stage, a million dollars and poker’s most exclusive title,” said Duke. “That opportunity is unmatched in poker.”
