Epic Poker League coming to US televisions

Twenty hours of action from the inaugural season is set to be broadcast via CBS Sports and Discovery’s new Velocity Network

Thursday 28th July 2011

Fans of poker in the United States will soon able to watch action from the new Epic Poker League on television after Los Angeles-based sporting events organiser Federated Sports And Gaming signed a deal with broadcasters CBS and Discovery Communications. The Epic Poker League is scheduled to begin next week from The Palms Casino And Resort in Las Vegas and the agreement will see CBS and Discovery broadcast a total of 20 hours of programming. “Epic Poker League is proud to partner with CBS and Discovery Communications in our inaugural season,” said Jeffrey Pollack, Executive Chairman for Federated Sports And Gaming. “Both companies share our commitment to providing a world-class stage and significant new exposure for poker’s most talented live tournament players.” The deal will see CBS Sports air seven hours of original programming from the Epic Poker League while Discovery will broadcast 13 additional hours via its new Velocity Network in addition to re-showing CBS’ programming. Velocity Network is a high-definition men’s cable network that is set to replace Discovery’s HD Theater network from October 4 with specific airdates and times scheduled to be announced later in the summer. “We are pleased to welcome the Epic Poker League to CBS,” said Rob Correa, Programming Executive Vice-President for CBS Sports. “We look forward to the League's inaugural season.” Each episode will be hosted by Emmy award-winning sports anchor and reporter Pat O’Brien with poker personality Ali Nejad set to provide expert analyst. Experienced television sports producer David Neal and 441 Productions, which produced the World Series of Poker for ESPN, will produce the broadcasts and include profiles of the competitors. “The Epic Poker League is set to take the game of poker to a new level and we’re excited to air these competitions featuring many of the world’s best live tournament poker players,” said Bob Scanlon, Senior Vice-President for Velocity Network. “All of the impressive play on the tables and the high-end production of the Epic Poker League will surely register with our viewers who enjoy programming that showcases thrills and non-stop action.”
