Manchester United fancied to retain Community Shield

English Premier League champion will face off against local rival Manchester City at Wembley Stadium next weekend in the first game of the 2011/12 season.

Friday 29th July 2011

Next Sunday will see the first match of the 2011/12 English football season as Manchester United face off against local rival Manchester City at London’s Wembley Stadium in the FA Community Shield. The annual FA Community Shield sees the previous English Premier League season’s champion go up against the winner of the FA Cup with Manchester United favourite to retain the trophy it won last year by defeating Chelsea. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side is being listed at odds of 23/20 by WilliamHill.com to defeat Manchester City in normal time to retain the Community Shield while VictorChandler.com and SportingBet.com are listing 6/5. Slightly longer, Betfred.com, StanJames.com, Bwin.com, bet365.com, Bodog.com and SkyBet.com are going with odds of 5/4 on the ‘Red Devils’ triumphing after 90 minutes just in advance of PaddyPower.com and Unibet.com with 13/10. After one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, Manchester City is hoping to get one over on its neighbours next weekend and punters can get odds of 7/4 from Betfred.com on Roberto Mancini’s team triumphing after 90 minutes. Manchester City last won the Community Shield in 1972 and PaddyPower.com is going with odds of 19/10 that the ‘Blues’ will lift this trophy again next Sunday while Unibet.com, Sportingbet.com, Bwin.com, WilliamHill.com and StanJames.com have 2/1. A solitary goal from Yaya Toure saw Manchester City defeat Manchester United in the semi-final of last season’s FA Cup at Wembley Stadium and bettors are being offered odds of 11/5 by Bodog.com and VictorChandler.com on a similar result next weekend before bet365.com and SkyBet.com listing 9/4. The two sides will contest a penalty shootout should the scores remain level after 90 minutes with WilliamHill.com showing odds of 21/10 on this eventuality occurring. Similarly, Sportingbet.com, PaddyPower.com and VictorChandler.com have a draw after full time at odds of 11/5 before Betfred.com, Bodog.com, StanJames.com, Sportingbet.com, Unibet.com and bet365.com with 9/4 and Bwin.com listing 23/10.
