NCAA betting shows geographical allegiance

Sportsbook.com players from New York, Illinois and North Carolina back UNC

Monday 4th April 2005

Sportsbook.com has announced betting on the NCAA final is a matter of where punters live. Betting trends show Sixty-eight per cent of New York state players, 51 % of Illinois players and perhaps surprisingly, only 53 % of players from North Carolina are behind the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

However, Texas and Pennsylvania are not in the Tar Heels camp. By a small margin,

the two states want to see the 5th seed Spartans in the final by 53% and 52%

respectively.

'Fans in New York, Virginia and DC heavily favor the Tar Heels, which is no surprise really,' said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com, 'but fans in Carolina, Texas and Pennsylvania are very much split on this game, as perhaps they are betting with their heads, rather than their heart.'
