bet365 selects Geo Networks

Online casino and sportsbook operator will launch a new national optical fibre network early next year allowing it to reliably distribute data in real time.

Thursday 29th September 2011

In response to increased demand, online casino and sportsbook operator bet365 has signed a ten-year deal that will see Geo Networks Limited deploy and manage a new national optical fibre network from the start of 2012. London-based Geo Networks is a provider of dedicated fibre networks and revealed that the agreement represents its first foray in the iGaming sector. The new network, which will be worth in excess of three million pounds, is scheduled to be deployed between bet365’s key UK data centres in Stoke-On-Trent, Manchester, Heathrow and London and see the operator able to reliably distribute data across its network in real time with a latency of less than three milliseconds while rapidly reconciling millions of daily transactions. “As player numbers continue to grow, we must find innovative ways to make sure our infrastructure can meet the demand today and the growth we anticipate in the future,” said Neil Selby, Head of Networks and Security for bet365. “We needed a robust and low latency network that could provide a seamless service to the hundreds of thousands of players simultaneously online, each of whom rightfully expect their odds information and, of course, their winnings to be readily available. “The nature of our business requires a network that can deal with tremendous spikes in traffic but with Geo Networks we have the additional benefit of owning our network and having a huge degree of control. Critical to us was accommodating all perceived growth prospects, leveraging the business continuity aspects and delivering a smooth user experience.” Bet365 stated that its new network will allow it to ‘respond to increased network demands with a scalable, reliable and future-proofed solution’ enabling it to ‘continue to deliver a superior end-user experience even during periods of rapid growth’. “With experience in providing dedicated fibre networks for some of the most data intensive organisations in the UK, Geo Networks will ensure that bet365 will have the capacity to provide its players with uninterrupted access to online services and the infrastructure to react to peaks in demand,” said Chris Smedley, Chief Executive Officer for Geo Networks. “The iGaming industry presents a huge area for growth as it needs a significant amount of network capacity. This is a new breed of customer for Geo Networks and we are very much looking forward to developing our experience in the iGaming industry.”
