Optimistic Jets fly into Miami

New York still has hopes of making the post-season for a third straight time but know that a win in Florida on Sunday is a prerequisite.

Friday 30th December 2011

The final round of regular season matches for the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season take place this weekend with the New York Jets still hopeful of clinching a third straight playoff spot by defeating the Miami Dolphins in Florida. The Jets have lost in each of the previous two American Football Conference (AFC) Championship games and currently sit second in the East division behind the New England Patriots with a record on eight wins and seven defeats. However, New York know that a win in Miami is not all they needs to make the post-season for a franchise record third season in a row and must also hope that the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and Oakland Raiders lose on Sunday. New York go into this weekend’s match as the under-dog with BlueSq.com and 888Sport.com showing Rex Ryan’s side at odds of 11/10 to triumph while VictorChandler.com and Betfair.com have 23/20. The Jets trounced Miami in the reverse of this fixture in October but Coral.co.uk, 32RedBet.com, Bodog.eu, paddypower.com, BoyleSports.com, Intertops.eu, bet365.com, Ladbrokes.com, SkyBet.com, StanJames.com and bwin.com are only showing the visitors at odds of 6/5 to overcome interim head coach Todd Bowles’ side at the 75,000-seat Sun Life Stadium with Betdaq.com going with 121/100. Longer still, punters can get odds of 31/25 at WBX.com on the Jets winning on Sunday before WilliamHill.com, Betfred.com and ToteSport.com offering 5/4. For its part, Miami has endured a below-par season and currently holds a record of five wins and ten defeats and sits bottom of the four-team East division of the AFC. The 2011 season was nine weeks old before the Dolphins chalked up their first win but the side is improving and only narrowly lost last week away to playoff-bound New England. Betfred.com, 888Sport.com, BlueSq.com, Coral.co.uk, 32RedBet.com, Betdaq.com, Totesport.com and StanJames.com show the Dolphins at optimistic odds of 4/6 to defeat the Jets just in advance of Betfair.com, paddypower.com and WilliamHill.com with 20/29. VictorChandler.com and Bwin.com put the Dolphins at odds of 7/10 to win their final game of 2011. At the far end of the spectrum, Bodog.eu, Ladbrokes.com, BoyleSports.com, Intertops.eu, SkyBet.com and bet365.com are going for odds of 5/7 on the Dolphins winning on Sunday while WBX.com has 73/100.
