Intralot subsidiary wins Malta lottery concession

Maltco has been awarded a ten-year deal to operate the island nation’s National Lottery after coming out on top of a competitive procurement process.

Friday 29th June 2012

Maltco Lotteries Limited, a subsidiary of the Athens-based developer and supplier of gaming and transaction processing systems Intralot, has been awarded a ten-year concession and licence to operate the National Lottery of Malta. The Greek firm stated that the award by the Government of Malta along with its Lotteries and Gaming Authority was granted following a competitive tendering process that saw Maltco satisfy ‘all the technical requirements’ and submit ‘the most advantageous financial bid of €39.1 million.’ “This is an historical moment for both Maltco and the Government of Malta,” said Ioannis Katakis, Chief Executive Officer for Maltco. “We are entering a new successful era for the Maltese lottery market and together with all the employees of Maltco, who I thank for their dedication and hard work, we are looking forward to it.” Intralot revealed that the concession is due to start from July 5 and will also see Maltco undertake a capital investment programme that will involve it making annual contributions to the nation’s Responsible Gaming Fund. “We are very pleased with the granting of the ten-year concession to Maltco,” said Constantinos Antonopoulos, Chief Executive Officer for Intralot. “Intralot’s state-of-the-art technology and customised solutions and services guarantee the success of Maltco during the next ten years. Maltco will continue offering to the people of Malta new exciting gaming experiences while at the same time increasing its significant contributions to local society and good causes.”
