Looming management changes at Paddy Power

Adjustments follow Jimmy Mangan’s decision to step down after 24 years as chief of operator’s Irish Retail division.

Thursday 27th December 2012

Online and land-based sportsbetting operator Paddy Power has announced a number of imminent changes to its senior management following the decision by Jimmy Mangan to stand down next year as head of its Irish Retail and Dial-A-Bet divisions. Paddy Power revealed that Mangan has run its Irish Retail division since the company’s formation in 1988 but is set to retire in July to be replaced by current UK Retail boss Andy McCue in the newly created Head of Retail role. McCue has led Paddy Power’s UK Retail division since 2006 but will take over the operator’s British and Irish businesses from January with the amalgamated role set to help it in leveraging the scale of its platforms in both countries. In addition, Charlie Kelly is to take over McCue’s seat in leading the firm’s Irish Retail division from July. Paddy Power stated that Kelly joined its ranks in 1999 as Group Financial Accountant and Company Secretary before being promoted to oversee its Irish Retail Operations division in 2005. Finally, current Head of UK Retail Operations and former Head of Retail Gaming, Dan Thomson, is to take up the Head of UK Retail post. “Jimmy has provided unique leadership to both the Irish Retail business and the broader group for 24 years,” said Patrick Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer for Dublin-based Paddy Power. “Put simply, without Jimmy, Paddy Power would not be what it is today. We thank him for his exceptional contribution and commitment. “Andy has delivered outstanding results with the team in UK Retail since 2006 and brings extensive strategic and operational expertise to this broader role while Dan's experience positions him very well for the continued development of the UK Retail business,” “Charlie will leverage his broad experience in Retail to drive the business forward. I believe these appointments will further strengthen and support the group's growth.”
