Wednesday 30th January 2013

Jimmy O’Brien, Strategic Marketing Vice-President at American lottery technology provider Scientific Games Corporation, has received the 2013 Lottery Industry Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Gaming Research Institute. A 33-year veteran of the lottery industry, O’Brien's innovative methodologies have helped grow the instant-ticket sector to the over $32 billion industry it is today and ensured that beneficiaries receive more money than ever. After joining Scientific Games in 2001, O’Brien created custom product marketing and game plans for the firm’s lottery customers including the Massachusetts Lottery, the Georgia Lottery and Italy’s Gratta e Vinci. O’Brien previously spent 21 years with the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission where he finished as Marketing Director and was responsible for initiating new mathematical formulas and strategies credited with growing the business’ instant game sales from $54 million per year to $54 million per week by 2001. “We congratulate Jimmy on his lifetime of achievement in the lottery industry,” said Jim Kennedy, Printed Products President and Chief Marketing Officer for Scientific Games. “He has been and continues to be integral to the innovation and science behind our games and strategic planning for our lottery customers. “Jimmy’s deep knowledge and training has been integrated within the company’s marketing, research, insights and product development groups to capture all of the instant product category management best practices he created. He is truly invaluable to the lottery industry.” O’Brien was the very first recipient of the annual Edward J Powers Award from the National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries in 1990 for excellence in sales and development before again receiving the gong three years later. He has now become the fourth Scientific Games employee to have been recognised by the Public Gaming Research Institute with a Lottery Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, which is a record in the sector.
