Breaking news - New Jersey legalises Internet gaming

Governor Chris Christie has signed into law legislation that will allow online gambling in the Garden State.

Tuesday 26th February 2013

Governor Chris Christie has today signed legislation that will see New Jersey become the third state in America after Nevada and Delaware to legalise online gaming. The Republican conditionally vetoed a proposed bill earlier this month but said that he would sign it if a number of alterations were made. The amended legislation, which included a provision for a ten-year trial period for Internet gambling and a 5% increase in the tax on winnings to 15%, was comfortably passed in the state Senate by 35-1 and in the Assembly by 68-5 with a single abstention. Christie's signature now authorises New Jersey to offer a selection of online slots and casino games in addition to online poker. More to follow.
