Sportradar appoints Nieminen to board of directors

Swiss sports and betting-related data services provider Sportradar AG has additionally hired Pablo Jensen to serve as its new Chief Technology Officer.

Swiss sports and betting-related data services provider Sportradar AG has put the final touches to its board of directors with the appointment of former Veikkaus Oy boss Risto Nieminen. Nieminen is a former President for the World Lottery Association and is described by Sportradar as ‘one of the leading experts of sport integrity’ after being an original member of the International Olympic Committee’s Founding Working Group on ways to combat irregular and illegal betting. St Gallen-based Sportradar stated that Nieminen will bring ‘world-class knowledge and a network of the lottery market’ to its board of directors, which now has six members. “Risto Nieminen provides an entrepreneurial mindset and a high level of market knowledge to our company,” said Carsten Koerl, Chief Executive Officer for Sportradar. In addition to Nieminen and Koerl, the board of directors for Sportradar now comprises television and media specialist Werner Klatten, international corporate financier and business leader Bijan Khezri, retail sportsbetting entrepreneur Carsten Schaudienst and qualified chartered accountant David Lampitt. “Sportradar is constantly looking for new ways in technology [and] I look forward to helping Sportradar extend its leadership role in the sportsbetting and media industry,” said Nieminen. The firm also revealed that Pablo Jensen has been hired to serve as its new Chief Technology Officer and will be responsible for setting its technology agenda while directing and coordinating resources and projects between its main information technology offices in Norway, Estonia and Slovenia. Sportradar declared that Jensen has over 20 years of leadership experience in the field of information technology for the ‘online services industry’ and previously worked as Technology Director for Thomson Reuters where he helped to develop and maintain online platforms, ECM and back-office systems “We have again ambitious growth plans for this year,” said Koerl. “New challenges are waiting for us and the group will keep its dynamical growth speed. In order to perfectly support this we need to strengthen our team with top senior management colleagues. Pablo will surely help our information technology to even outperform the last year.”
