European Poker Tour launched for 2005

Poker enthusiasts will visit some of world’s best casinos on a televised poker tour in Europe

Friday 29th October 2004

As Poker continues to increase in popularity around the world, a European tour has been planned for 2005. The tour will take in the major cities of the continent, with events taking place in London, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna and Dublin.

The final will be held in the majestic Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. Prize money is expected to be more than 2 Million euros for the culminating event alone, with well more than 1 million euros going to the winner.

Poker enthusiasts who can not make it to Europe to take part will also have the opportunity to play in the Grand Final. Online satellite tournaments for the Grand Final event in Monaco will be played on PokerStars.com, and winners of those satellite events will receive the same prize package as winners of the individual live events on the tour.

The tour, sponsored by PokerStars, will be televised in 90-minute sessions from the preliminary events, where winners can take home prize packages of 15,000 euros, to the illustrious grand finale.

John Duthie, executive producer of the PokerStars European Poker Tour said, “All across Europe, from casinos to online sites like PokerStars, interest in poker is booming. It’s only natural to provide a circuit for the serious European poker player.” He added, “Finally, Europe will host a premier poker tour.”
