Philadelphia improved to 2-0 both SU and ATS after knocking off the Vikings 27-16 as a 3-point home favorite on Monday Night. McNabb has been virtually perfect thus far, completing better than 70% of his passes with a terrific 6/0 – TD/INT ratio on the season. The addition of Owens at WR has truly made Philly the team to beat in the NFC this year. Philadelphia is actually riding an astonishing 14-3 SU and 13-4 ATS run dating back to 2003.
This is not really a surprise, however, as the Green Birds maintain some of the most startling historical ATS numbers we have ever seen in the NFL. Irrespective of the situation they are in, we can dig up unthinkable technical data supporting their side. This week we’ll note that Philadelphia is 31-12 ATS their last forty-three vs. conference opponents and 37-18 ATS their last fifty-four games overall. Moreover, the Eagles have soared to a 7-1 ATS mark their last eight on the road and a sweet 10-3 ATS record priced as road chalk.
For their part, Detroit has also jumped out to a 2-0 record both SU and ATS. They knocked off the Bears at Soldier Field in their opener and routed the Texans 28-16 as a 3-point home favorite last week. The Lions are a vastly improved team and have some budding stars on the offensive side of the ball. It is worth mentioning, however, that Detroit has been outgained in each of their first two games, but has benefited from a generous +5 turnover margin. It will take a few more W’s for us to buy into the Lions’ success, but we do give them a decent shot at winning this game and here is why.
Philly is the much better team, but is in a huge letdown after their Monday Night win and Ford Field has always been a tough place to play. Detroit is actually 13-6 ATS as a home dog over the past three years and 5-1 both SU and ATS their past six at home overall. Technically speaking, the Lions are 17-4 ATS at home off a SU home win and an incredible 19-3 ATS at home of back-to-back SU wins. This is a great situation for Detroit and if Bly ends up playing, an upset is very possible. Take the points here.
