Rapper Rhymes and Raises Spirits at Hawaiian Military Base

Wednesday 27th July 2005

Snoop Dogg, amongst other stars, paid tribute to U.S. Military personnel in Hawaii in a two-day celebrity showpiece last weekend. The ‘Bodog Salutes the Troops: A Tribute to American Heroes’ weekend (July 22-23) was sponsored by Poker website Bodog.net, to pay tribute to those serving or about to serve in the Middle East.

The event opened with a Poker Tournament between navy, airforce, army and a host of celebrity players, which was won by actress Estella Warren – who donated the prize money to the Army morale welfare department.

“I am in complete shock,” said Estella Warren. “I thought I would be one of the first players knocked out, and the next thing you know I'm being handed a trophy. Needless to say, I'm considering making a career change.”

The tournament featured many other celebrity players, such as Shannon Elizabeth (“American Pie”), Jorge Garcia (“Lost”) and Dule Hill (“The West Wing”). The star of the concert, held at the Waikiki Shell, was rap star, Snoop Dogg, who was delighted with the reception he received, “It's a beautiful feeling to be appreciated and come out and give the troops something to smile about and something to dance to”.

The event was hosted by CEO of Bodog, Calvin Ayre who presented the Fisher House Foundation, a humanitarian support program for military personnel, with a generous donation.
