Sportingbet Ranked World''s Most Powerful By egaming review
Sportingbet Plc nominated as the world''s most powerful player in the online gaming arena
Wednesday 27th July 2005
Sportingbet Plc (LSE: SBT) has been nominated as the world''s most powerful player in the online gaming arena for the second year running by publication egaming review in its annual ''Power 50'' survey.
Sportingbet achieved its number one ranking ahead of PartyGaming, Cassava Enterprises (888.com), William Hill, BetandWin and Ladbrokes. The company scored highest against the survey''s criteria covering scale, reach, diversity and influence.
The survey highlighted the impact Sportingbet''s acquisition of Paradise Poker in October 2004 had on the group''s earnings profile. It also said that the acquisition showed Sportingbet was prepared to act while others simply talked about consolidation and proved Sportingbet''s ability to continue pushing back the boundaries of what is possible in the egaming sector.
Commenting on the survey findings, Alun Bowden, Editor of egaming review, said:
''To characterise the past 12 months simply as the year Sportingbet bought Paradise would be underestimating its performance. During the period under consideration each quarter has seen it rack up record profits, its share price and market capitalisation have soared and it has cemented its position as the leading global online sportsbook player.''
Commenting on the award Nigel Payne, Chief Executive of Sportingbet, said:
''We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this prestigious accolade again. According to the survey we are the only top five firm to tick all the boxes under its wide ranging criteria and this is testament to the efforts that everybody at Sportingbet has made over what has been a very exciting twelve months.''
