Bad beat jackpot coming to an end at Americas Cardroom

US-friendly online poker site is instead expanding its The Beast Cash Race and The Beast Tournament Race campaigns from Sunday.

Friday 30th August 2013

This weekend will see Americas Cardroom instituting some major changes after the US-friendly online poker site announced that it intends to end its bad beat jackpot in favour of The Beast Cash Race and The Beast Tournament Race. From September 1, Americas Cardroom's bad beat jackpot, which is awarded to players losing a hand with a pair of eights or better, will cease although competitors will continue to be eligible to pop the cash prize of over $175,000 until it is depleted without having to contribute any fees. Americas Cardroom currently collects a fee of 25 cents on stakes of $1/$2 and below with eight cents of this feeding into its bad beat jackpot while 13 cents is earmarked for The Beast Cash Race with the remainder going to The Beast Tournament Race. On stakes of $2/$4 and higher, a 50 cent fee is obtained to send 33 cents to the bad beat jackpot. After Sunday, the fees collected are due to go entirely towards feeding Americas Cardroom’s progressive leaderboard points races, The Beast Cash Race and The Beast Tournament Race, with the maximum amount capped at 25 cents. This is due to send 18 cents to The Beast Cash Race with seven cents allocated to The Beast Tournament Race while micro stake tables of $0.05/$0.10 will no longer be charged. “We're responding to player feedback by delivering the type of experience diehard poker players want,” said Michael Harris from Americas Cardroom. “We've heard from our players and a lot of them are telling us that the bad beat jackpot in its current form isn't something they find attractive. So we're changing the concept of how players get paid.” Americas Cardroom declared that any player sitting down at a cash table marked ‘Jackpot’ from Sunday will automatically become part of The Beast competition and earn points through participation in a raked hand. “While more points are earned at higher stake levels, everyone participating in the same raked hand earns the same number of points regardless of how much rake they contributed to the pot,” read a statement from Americas Cardroom.
