South African Casinos Hit by series of raids

Police hunting a dozen armed robbers

Emperors Palace Casino is the latest in a long line of South African Casino to suffer a robbery in 2005.

Gunmen stormed into the Kempton Park based casino at 5.30am on Sunday and made off with a trolley with a “substantial”, but undisclosed, amount of cash.

Police are hunting the 12-armed robbers who held several casino employees hostage during the raid. No one was injured though and the robbers did not open.

In March, eight robbers armed with AK-47s sprayed the inside of the Gold Reef City casino with bullets before making off with a cash box.

North Rand police spokesperson Superintendent Eugene Opperman said they would investigate to see whether the same gang was behind all the heists.
