CelebPoker’s August tournament to air on Sky TV tonight

Land based tournament held in Brighton will be shown for public to view

Friday 8th October 2004

A land based celebrity poker tournament is scheduled to broadcast today in the UK on Sky TV. The tournament which took place in August, was organised and sponsored by Celebpoker.com, a site whose aim is to give the poker playing public access to poker playing celebs and challenge them either within tournaments or in one on one games.

The tournament was held at the Rendezvous Casino in Brighton, and will broadcast at 11pm tonight. The overall prize pool for the event was £120,000, which, making it one of the largest poker tournaments in Europe, attracted not only celebrities but also a good number of the strongest poker players in Europe. Sitting alongside them in the tournament, were less well know players who had earned their seat through satellite tournaments entered via CelebPoker.

The celebrity line up included Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, radio DJ Chris Brooks, Mark Williams, John McCrick, Tony Cascarino, Jesse Birdsall, and the site’s resident columnist Nick Leeson. The prize pool was generated by 120 players buying in with £1000 each, and the competition was fierce as players fought for the winnings and the title. The winner earned themselves £40,000 and a seat at the CelebPoker Global Challenge to take place next year. Entry to this event would have normally cost US$5000. The anticipated prize pool for the global 2005 challenge stands at US$10,000,000. The broadcasting of the event tonight will be on Sky’s Men and Motors channel.
