London Open Poker Tournament Aims for $3 Million Pot

underway for this September’s London Open poker tournament. Described last year as “the Wimbledon of British Poker”, the 2006 tournament is due to take place at Whitehall Palace and is aiming to attract an even bigger pot than last year’s $2 million.
Much like last year, the aim is to lavish pro poker player and celebrities – from Antonio Esfandiari to Mimi Rogers – in as much luxury as possible, be it theatre tickets or tours of royal palaces, all the while creating as much excitement as possible around the poker. That shouldn’t be a problem in 2006, with 300 participants and a $10,000 buy-in creating a likely pot of $3 million.
Perhaps the best news though is that there will be exclusive online qualifying tournaments at World Poker Exchange (www.worldpx.com) so any non-celeb can at least try and get a seat at the table.
