Satellite Player Wins First WPT Game of the Season

Satellite Player Wins First WPT Game of the Season

Monday 22nd May 2006

Satellite entrant Stan Weiss has won the first tournament of the World Poker Tour season. The little known player saw off the challenge of David Williams, Robert Mizrachi and Harry Demitrou, a former scientist and futures trader, to take the day. Weiss went into heads up play with a significant chip deficit, but clawed his way back over 50 hands to win and set himself on the way in season five. Before the game, last year’s player of the year, Gavin Smith was honoured and new WPT hostess, Sabina Gadecki, was introduced, replacing the outgoing Courtney Friel as the pretty face of the tour.
