Event organised by online casino brought to an end by NYPD after massive queues
Tuesday 30th May 2006
PokerShare.com, launched their brand new site, CasinoShare.com, last Friday, giving away eight thousand gallons of gas to fuel-hungry New Yorkers. In what some described as the longest gas queue this decade, cars backed up 10 blocks from the corner of Canal St and the West Side HWY, as far as Brooklyn Bridge.
With six pumps offering $40 of gas to each customer, demand was understandably high, with drivers learning about the event from the city’s local TV and radio stations. One guy said he’d left work early just to fill up. “This is too good to be true,” he said. “When was the last time you got gas for free?”
In fact, things got so hectic that the NYPD had to bring an end to the party. Lucan Toh, the CEO of PokerShare.com, was understandably disappointed. “It''s a travesty that with gas prices so high in America,” he said. “Someone like PokerShare who wants to give back and give away free gas gets shut down hours early with thousands of gallons waiting to be given out. But PokerShare is about giving back to the people who support it, so we''ll be back.”
The company is already planning a repeat of the event as well as hoping that some of the people they’ve helped out will be paying a visit to CasinoShare.com in the near future too.
