Large betting volumes for the 2006 World Series has forced significant movement in the odds of several MLB teams. The biggest mover has been the New York Mets whose odds have been slashed from 25-1 into 10-1, mainly as a result of their recent acquisition of Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner.
Peter Childs, odds maker at Sportsbook.com said of the Mets’ betting plunge, “The Mets definitely just made some noise picking up a big time slugger and one of the top closers in the game.”
Otherwise, the New York Yankees are still the overwhelming favourite at 4-1, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals, 11-2. Also at 10-1 with the Mets are the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the defending World Series Champions, the Chicago White Sox.
