Online Poker Players Get Mobile over Gambling Law

PocketFives.com organise ‘phone march’ on Washington as Senate resumes session

Monday 11th September 2006

Since the House of Representatives passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act by a margin of 317-93 in July this year, the online gambling industry has been hit hard by the very real danger that this bill could pose to its future.

Last week saw the resumption of session for the Senate, following a three week recess, with the proposed bill likely to be high on the agenda, particularly in light of the arrests of both Peter Dicks and David Carruthers. With this in mind, online poker site PocketFives.com has teamed up with the Poker Players Alliance to organise a ‘phone march’ on Washington, to lobby representatives on the proposed bill.

Between 9:00am and 5:30pm ET tomorrow, online poker players and gamblers alike, are being offered the chance to call in their support for the future of online gambling. PocketFives.com President Cal Spears said, “If everyone voices their disapproval for this legislation on the same day, we will send a clear signal to the Senate that America does not support banning internet gambling and online poker.'

The initiative gives callers the opportunity to be connected to their senator’s office, via a toll-free system, to voice their concerns about the bill.

PocketFives.com is a website dedicated to providing a community and news outlet for online poker and currently has over 18,000 members.
