Bodog.com will let you know as it posts odds on the World Stupidity Awards
Tuesday 19th September 2006
It might not sound like your typical wager, but online sportsbook and casino Bodog.com has confirmed that it has opened lines on the World Stupidity Awards, for players to hedge their bets in categories such as the award for ‘Reckless Endangerment of the Planet’.
The awards, sponsored by the New York based Disinformation Company, aims to highlight the year’s most inopportune moments achieved by public figures in a selection of categories. Some early front runners in the ‘Dumbest Moment of the Year’ category are Zinedine Zidane’s loss of temper in the World Cup Final, Dick Cheney’s rather unfriendly aim, and Britney Spears being caught speeding with her baby at the wheel.
Calvin Ayre, Bodog.com’s founder explained, 'Over the last few years, the popularity of entertainment and pop culture betting has exploded. The satirical and fun nature of these particular awards embodies the Bodog.com lifestyle and fits perfectly within the scope of our entertainment offerings.”
The World Stupidity Awards are now in their fourth year, and Bodog.com has included several new categories including ‘Media outlet which has Best Furthered Ignorance’, ‘Stupidest Statement of the Year’, and the ‘Lifetime Achievement award for Stupidity’.
The winners of the awards will be announced September 20th.
