It’s not the most likely place to go if you fancy spending a bit of money on the roulette wheel or playing a few games of Texas Hold’em but Mansfield, a small and not exactly buzzing town in the UK, could be set to have its own new casino thanks to relaxed gambling laws introduced in the UK last year.
A decision by the local council is said to be imminent on a debate that has dominated the airwaves in the local area and had people writing letters and articles both for and against in the local paper. The new gambling laws mean that it is easier for foreign companies to open casinos in the UK, but they will be subject to extremely tight regulation by central government.
If Mansfield does get the go ahead then Las Vegas Sands have shown an interest in stepping in to make it a reality. Expect the final venue to be something of a mix of Las Vegas glitz and working men’s club grime. A fine thought if ever there was one.
