PokerStars Steals PartyPoker’s Crown

The site’s decision to accept US players ensures continued growth

Wednesday 27th December 2006

The decision by PokerStars to continue to accept American players, despite the passing of legislation which effectively bans online gambling in the US, means that the site has now replaced PartyPoker as the world’s biggest online poker room.

Recent figures from Whichpoker.com show that since the signing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, PokerStars is not only the world's largest tournament online poker room but is also the world's largest cash game online poker room.

PokerStars daily cash game player numbers have increased from around 6,500 to around 8,500, an increase of approximately 31 per cent, while their peak numbers are approaching 13,500 compared to around 10,000 prior to the recent legislation.

'PokerStars believes that poker is a game of skill enjoyed by millions of players and we remain committed to providing you a safe and fun environment in which to play,' quotes the PokerStars website.

The site has now upped its proverbial ante to match the increased demand with cash game offerings that include Seven Card Stud, Razz, Five Card Draw, Triple Draw and the WSOP favourite HORSE as well as the popular Texas Hold’em and Omaha versions.

PokerStars has also made progress in Europe by introducing German language support and plans to add more languages in the near future.
