The chairman of the US house Financial Services Committee has described America's online gaming ban as "one of the stupidest things I ever saw."
Barney Frank said he was putting the cogs in place in order to get the wheels of Congress turning. "I want to get it undone. I plan to file legislation," the Republican said.
But, he explained, despite laying out plans in the next few weeks to get the ban lifted, he would wait until more lawmakers were in his corner before pushing too far.
"I think a reconsideration among my colleagues is beginning," he said. "It's not far enough along yet so I wouldn't move the bill but I plan to introduce the bill and if (the) storm of public unhappiness is great enough, I will try to substantially revise that ban."
Frank explained that the US Congress house Financial Services Committee alone could not change the entire legislation, although it might be able to lift the ban on credit card limitations.
"The first thing is to plant the banner out there and see how many people rally around it," he added.
