In Australian news, Victoria's biggest bookies are exiting the state as they can not wait any longer for legislators to make a move on 24-hour internet betting.
Victoria's largest bookmakers Global Sportsbet and Betstar have moved out to Darwin and Canberra, in order to be able to compete with 24-hour internet gambling, the Herald Sun newspaper reports.
Gary Walsh from Global Sportsbet explained the move frankly: "Bottom line, we can bet 24 hours, seven days a week on the internet, which we can't do here. If the Government changes the law, Global Sportsbet will return to Victoria."
Betstar boss Alan Eskander said he couldn't wait any more for the government to change the law. "I can't accept it any more," he complained. "I've copped it on the chin for six to eight years, waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever does.
"It's foolish for me to wait any longer for the wheels of bureaucracy to get in motion. It's not right for my business and it's negligent to my clients that I don't give them the service they deserve."
Racing minister, Rob Hulls, shrugged off the news in typical Aussie fashion saying: "If some bookies honestly believe they are better off leaving the greatest racing state in Australia and setting themselves up under some tree in Fannie Bay (Darwin), then that is a matter for them."
