World Poker Tour Update

The World Championship Event sees 218 through to level 5

Tuesday 24th April 2007

There were many surprise bust outs from big names as day two of the World Poker Tour World Championship event at The Bellagio in Las Vegas came to an end. The field was reduced from 479 players to 218, and those by the wayside included Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan and Joe Hachem, as well as Todd and later Doyle Brunson.

Phil Hellmuth is thought to be in the lead with $500,000 but Anna Wroblewski is only $25,000 behind him. Despite needing two chairs, the tiny Wroblewski has proven herself to be in possession of a massive game and rocketed into the big league last week, when she turned her back on a day job on winning the Five Star event also at the Bellagio.

She was one of the first of a small group of clear leaders when she cracked aces with 8-8 which put her the right side of the $400,000 mark. One of her other achievements on day two of the World Championship event include having managed to make Phil Ivey smile.

Unlike last year’s World Series of Poker event, Phil Hellmuth is not a shock knock out, and his annihilation of a Fontana Room table, pushing past Roland De Wolfe who was the first past the $500,000 mark.
