Brian Townsend takes $120,000 from Phil Ivey

Poker legend loses badly at high stakes poker online

Tuesday 24th April 2007

Phil Ivey has lost $120,000 to and Brian Townsend or ‘Sbrugby’ as he is often known online, in one of their regular clashes. One of the losses occurred in one heads up battle and at $300/600 and the other was at a $200/400 table. The High Stakes database website has followed the two players, and reports on some of the bigger pots.

In one hand, Ivey went all-in pre-flop with only A6 suited, and was beaten by Brian’s pocket kings. The other big bust out happened when Ivey went all in with Ace King, but was beaten when a flop of 10, Ace, 3 gave Townsend a whopping $130,192 for ace 10, with two pair.

However, these are just two of many battles played out at online poker room Full Tilt Poker, and the Double Through poker community, reports that Townsend lost $400,000 dollars to Ivey only nights before.

Brian Townsend is a relative newcomer to professional poker, who made his name playing online. Ivey is one of the biggest players in the game, and comfortable with very high stakes. A losing consortium of pros once brought him in to win back a staggering $7 million they had lost, and were not disappointed.
