Lucky him to see Lucky You
Friday 27th April 2007
Texan student 'odessalim', or Cory to his friends, will be jetting to the Big Apple after winning tickets to the premiere of poker film 'Lucky You' at the Tribeca Film Festival in a Texas Holdem tournament.
'Odessalim' scooped the prize after triumphing at the Bluff-magazine sponsored PlayersOnly.com tournament at the weekend, although he had to battle to beat the final table.
"I am usually a tight aggressive player but I change it up depending on where I stand in a tournament or my feel for the table," he said. "In this particular tourney I played loose at the beginning because first was the only place that had any value to me and I wanted to have a chance to win."
"I thought I was the favourite to win when there were nine players left. I was second in chips and the chip leader didn’t want to take control of the table so assumed this role and when it was down to heads up I had a huge chip lead," he boasted.
"Some of the players on the Bluff forum were the only players that I had respect for but they were unable to chip up early and were not a factor."
Warner Brothers' Lucky You stars Eric Bana as a player whose poker skill often lapses under the weight of his emotions, particularly when faced with a heads-up with his father, a legendary player depicted by Robert Duvall.
Obviously this is not a case of art mirroring life - 'odessaslim' is taking his beloved dad with him to on the prize trip, which caters for two.
