No tears for high turnovers

Wednesday 9th May 2007

Casino bosses have always lamented the high turnover of staff that they seem to encounter, but a top expert in the gaming industry has said managers should get over it and cheer up, for it might be a good thing.

Many casinos struggle in desperation to keep experienced staff on the payroll, because they believe that clients prefer a familiar face and re-training costs can be high, but Robinson & Associates, a customer service consulting firm to the gaming industry, says this is not the right attitude.

Martin R Baird, chief executive officer of Robinson & Associates, says that employee turnover is a fact of life and casino bosses should focus on the new ideas a potential employee could bring in.

"Forget about zero employee turnover," Mr Baird said. "People move, finish college, even die. Casino executives must be realistic about the fact that some people will leave for a variety of reasons and that turnover is a fact of business."

He concluded: "A manageable amount of turnover can be good. Employees are the lifeblood of any casino, but sometimes a few of them need to be removed for the health of the property. New employees bring in fresh ideas, abilities and attitudes that can breathe life into the casino."

So there you go, stop being big cry babies.
