Jackie Meecham certainly had her eye on the ball when she beat 47 other women to triumph at the second Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship, but she is usually more at home at the pool table than the card table.
A former no.1 UK champion pool player from Leytonstone, our Jackie scooped £32,000 in prizes, including the top prize of £15,000 cash and a seat at the prestigious Poker Million IV tournament.
She had tough competition, facing Katherine Hartree, who walked away from WSOP 2006 with more than pocket money. She also had some feisty British opponents who were competition regulars- but Essex girl Beverley Pace was knocked into sixth place and Hamsteadite Jen Mason could only manage fourth.
It was Jackie's greatest success yet in her two-and-a-half year poker career, her next largest win being £700 bagged at her local mecca and she plans to splash her winnings on a new motor.
But with the chance of winning $1,000,000 at the forthcoming Poker Million IV, perhaps she should wait before settling for a little run-around.
The pool champ said: "I can't wait to participate in the Poker Million VI, as apart from the experience the amount of money to be won is astounding. It is an opportunity of a lifetime that I am going to grasp with both hands."
