Burt Boutin Wins Second WSOP Bracelet

Boutin claims second bracelet at the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event

Thursday 7th June 2007

Burt Boutin claimed his second World Series of Poker Bracelet when he won the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Boutin won the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event in 2001, and has competed nine times. This year the field of 145 Omaha players meant that the tournament was held over three days and not the expected two. This was good news for Boutin, as the extra numbers and 421 rebuys created a huge prize pool of $2,891,000, of which $825,956 went to the winner.

Other big winners were:

2. Erik Cajelais - $483,755

3. Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot - $332,582

4. Sirous Jamshidi - $230,883

5. Minh Ly - $174,537

Cajelais entered the heads up game with nearly a million more chips than Boutin. The first hand dramatically reversed their positions when a flop of Ah8c2c gave Boutin top pair and the nut flush draw with his AcKcQh6c. However Cajelais was ahead as the 8c gave him a set for his 8d8h5c5d hand. When the turn brought 3c Boutin went to his family and celebrated early. The announcer reminded him that Cajelais could still make a full house. However, Cajelais was disappointed by the river and Boutin had nearly 5 million chips to Cajelais’ 760,000. The match was over five hands later.
