AC Milan sponsor Bwin secures Real Madrid sponsorship
Monday 11th June 2007
Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG, the Austrian online bookmaker, has signed a deal to become the key sponsor of Spanish football club Real Madrid. The official announcement will take place at the club's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium today (June 11), Real Madrid confirmed on its website.
The Spanish giants will receive €15 million a year as a result of the partnership, according to a May 31 report in Marca, a Madrid-based sports newspaper.
Bwin announced last November that it would slash its marketing spend by half in 2007 as a result of legal restrictions in some European countries and the introduction of the US’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) late last year.
The announcement will see the Austrian operator extending a football sponsorship programme which already includes 7 times European champions and current holders AC Milan, German side Werder Bremen and the Portuguese premier division ‘BwinLIGA’.
