Irish Poker Open Awash with Leprechauns

Analysis of this year’s Irish Open throws up some bizarre results

Friday 8th June 2007

The Irish Poker Open 2007 Survey has been analysed, and there are some fairly strange results! Out of the 300 players who attended the event, one in five players claimed to have met a leprechaun. This goes to show that poker players really can see things that others can’t.

The head of Communications at Paddy Power, who sponsored the event, quipped, 'I saw lots of funny looking Irishmen chasing a crock of gold but I didn't see any leprechauns! In fact, if anyone can deliver a real leprechaun to us before the end of the year I'll personally buy them, and the leprechaun, in to the Irish Open 2008.'

Bookmakers are successful because they know how to evaluate risk. This offer, which is tantamount to announcing a leprechaun contest, comes with the sensible disclaimer that the company will not accept any responsibility for injuries sustained in any attempted capture of a leprechaun, along with instructions to send it to Paddy Power in Dublin when they do.

Other survey results showed that 31% of players admitted to being knocked out when called on a bluff, 56% fell to bad beats and 13% were rivered.

A happy 91% of players rated their experience at the tournament positively and 95% wanted to return and play again in 2008.
