New Ethics Code for poker
Monday 30th July 2007
The World Poker Association (WPA) has announced that it is adopting a new Ethics Code that its new and existing members will have to agree to be part of the WPA.
The new Ethics Compliance Pledge for members states: "As a condition of admission and continued membership in the WPA, I pledge to support and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct in all aspects of poker competition and tournament activities, and hereby agree to comply with the WPAs Code of Ethics as developed and periodically updated by the WPA."
It also stipulates that WPA members must support professionalism in poker competition and will play sportingly and with respect to all players and that "members are expected to reflect admirable sportsmanship in the context of spirited competition". "The Ethics Code is the cornerstone on which the WPA has established itself as a single, unified voice for millions in the commitment to professionalism in the worldwide poker community," said Wendeen Eolis, vice chair of the WPA and chair of the Ethics Committee.
The WPA now has over 1,300 members and is membership is growing ever swiftly.
