Betting on virtual horse racing is catching up in popularity with the Sunday afternoon pastime of laying a bet on a real race in a high street bookies, an open-server-based gaming provider has claimed.
Inspired Broadcast Network (IBN) has said that 20 per cent of wagers are laid on virtual horse races rather than real ones in UK bookmakers, with one in five British punters laying odds on unreal colts and fillies.
IBN is a UK-based company and provides gaming, leisure and vending platforms across Europe, Australasia and the US.
Its software is used internationally in establishments such as casinos, bookmakers, bingo halls, pubs and shops.
This data will have been taken from its UK share of 20,000 networked terminals and 60 million transactions per month.
The news comes after both William Hill and Ladbrokes reported no notable downturn in takings despite having to cancel 75 race meetings due to recent weather conditions.
Either determined punters have invested in a good brolly, or have turned to the virtual world to enjoy their racing without getting a soaking.
