Online Casinos Channel Energy Into TV Ads

TV companies bombarded with enquiries from gambling firms

Wednesday 22nd August 2007

The government’s relaxation of rules regarding gambling adverts across all media from September 1st has resulted in a surge in the number of gambling firms wanting to advertise their services through the UK’s TV screens.

Leading gaming companies such as Party Poker, Betfair, Full Tilt and Foxy Bingo are gearing up to offer TV ads from next month while bookmakers such as Ladbrokes are holding back their TV campaigns until October.

'We have had a steady flow of online gaming and poker companies for September,' said a broadcasting source. 'We expect this might open the floodgates for traditional bookies to come from October onwards.'

The new advertising regulations is set to provide a much needed boosted television advertising revenue, which is expected to see a 9 percent growth in September compared with the same month last year.

TV companies, which previously expected advertising income to dip this year, are now confident that 2007 revenue will be up one percent, compared to 2006, to reach approximately £3.35bn.
