American Student Takes PokerStar.net APPT Trophy

Twenty-two-year-old Californian wins in Manila at inaugural Asian Pacific Poker Tour event

Wednesday 29th August 2007

An American university student beat 254 players to take home the title and just under $180,000 at the inaugural PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) in Manila on Sunday.

Twenty-two-year old Brett Parise won $179,775 at the three-day event and also received a seat at the APPT Grand Final at the Star City Casino in Sydney, Australia, from December 13 to 16.

Parise is currently studying Political Science in California and qualified for the tournament free on PokerStars.net by winning his tournament entry, flights and accommodation.

“It’s so exciting to become the APPT’s first ever champion especially as I won the trip and my seat in the Manila APPT event from a free tournament online at PokerStars,” said Parise.

“This gave me not only a great opportunity to test my poker skills but also to visit Asia and experience this totally different culture. It was also an awesome bonus to take down my first professional poker title in front of my mother who was also able to come as part of my PokerStars package.”

The event’s 255 players came from 34 countries and included top players such as Vanessa Rousso, Daniel Negreanu and 2005 World Series Of Poker Main Event Champion Joe Hachem.
