Seattle mayor's son changes casino cheat plea
Thursday 30th August 2007
Son of Seattle mayor Greg Nickels, Jacob Nickels, has revealed that he will change his plea on casino cheating charges from not guilty to guilty, according to the Associated Press.
At the federal court in Seattle, Mr Nickels will be accused of conspiracy and theft charges as part of a multi-million dollar casino cheating ring thought to have bribed dealers in seven states.
The 25-year-old is accused of accepting $5,000 to employ a dealer who would falsely shuffle cards in order to allow the cheats to win.
It was alleged that this activity took place in summer 2005 while he was working as a pit boss at the Nooksack Tribe's River Casino in Deming, Whatcom County.
A 24-year-old croupier, Levi Mayfield, from the Nooksack Casino has already pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge and named Jacob Nickels as his recruiter.
The mayor's son will now plead guilty to one count of conspiracy and four counts of theft of funds from the casino before a US magistrate judge.
