Isle of Man Rethinks US Policy

Council of Ministers meet to discuss opening doors to US customers

Tuesday 23rd November 2004

In a move that could prove a serious financial boon for the island’s iGaming sector, it has emerged that the Isle of Man could be about to allow its licensed internet gambling operations to accept wagers from the American market. According top the Isle of Man Today newspaper, the island’s Council of Ministers will meet this week to discuss the matter and consider implementing a change in policy.

In the same week that Gibraltar-based, UK orientated online casino 32Red.com revealed that it had opened it’s doors to American customers, the Department of Trade and Industry submitted a report to the Council which presented the pros and cons of following suit.

Sources say that the Manx government is likely to rule in favour of allowing individual companies to decide for themselves whether or not to accept US bets. The current legislation is a major factor in dissuading new iGaming business from setting up in the island, and the potential tax revenue from opening up to the world’s largest online gambling market would be enormous.
